OPERATION KAPUT
Kids          
          and
                    Police
                              United
                                        Together
Operation KAPUT was a started through a grant written in April of 1999 from Juvenile Justice Advisory Group.  The Rangeley Police Department and Rangeley Region Health Center as well as Rangeley Community for Children received the grant and KAPUT was started. 

KAPUT is an "explorer type" program, we ride mountain bikes on a bicycle patrol.  Thru this program the Kids will also be taught 1st aid and CPR and Bicycle Safety.
KAPUT's first event was July 4th 1999,  we rode our new DiamondBack Mountain bikes in the Rangeley Parade.  All 15 Kids signed up for KAPUT were present and had a great time.

Throughout the rest of the first summer we met for weekly rides and events.  We traveled to a Portland Seadogs baseball game.
          As a part of the grant we had a weekend high intensity team building event.  We traveled to New England Outdoor Center in Caratunk, Maine for a two day activity.  The first day Saturday was boating safety and a lot of time on the water.  We camped out that night roasting marshmellows over the camp fire.

Sunday morning it was up early to get our equipment and safety lecture for the day ahead of us on the Kennebec River.
          This pictures was taken at one of the side stops along the our trip.  The blue boat is one of two boats with our group, Bruce is guiding this boat. 

          Below is the second boat in our group this boat was guided by our instructor for the weekend Dennis Kerrigan.

          The rafting weekend was a big success, the bus ride home was a very quiet one.  Everyone slept on the ride home!
